Introduction
VANWIN was a company I hadn’t heard of before, but two features of its Alpha Power paddle caught my attention: the Pro-Flex foam construction and the carborundum-inlaid surface. I was intrigued enough to give it a try.

A paddle with a genuine corundum face won’t make you a better player overnight, but it should maintain its surface texture much longer than conventional carbon-fiber faces, helping preserve spin and consistent ball contact over the life of the paddle.

Performance
- Power and pop: The Alpha Power is a swing-driven power paddle. When you accelerate through the ball, it delivers plenty of put-away power. At the same time, it doesn’t have an overly springy, trampoline-like response that can contribute to unwanted pop-ups at the net.
- Touch and feel: Dinks and drops felt remarkably consistent right out of the box. The paddle also provides good feedback and control during fast exchanges at the non-volley zone.
- Spin: The gritty carborundum surface grips the ball well, producing solid spin on serves, returns, and other shots.
- Sound: Despite its carborundum face, the Alpha Power produces the familiar, muted “boop” associated with many foam paddles.
