Pickleball Apes Paddles

I have had the opportunity to use, practice with and review two of the “PickleballApes” paddles. The Pro Line Energy and the Pro Line Energy S

Pro Line Energy Paddle S

Here are the specs on this paddle:

  • Core: Narrow-cell Honeycomb Poly Core
  • Surface: Dynamic Kevlar Surface
  • Grip: Leather Performance Grip
  • Specs: 16.4” H x 7.6” W
  • Weight: 8.0 – 8.4oz
  • Swing Weight: 118-120
  • Grip Length: 5.5 in
  • Grip Circumference: 4.25 in
  • Thickness: 16.5 mm

So, what is a Dynamic Kevlar Surface? According to PickleballApes, the Dynamic Kevlar Surface is a patent-pending technology with cutting-edge combination of Kevlar and Carbon Fiber. This innovative meld promises not just exceptional durability but also unparalleled performance.

When I saw Kevlar, I thought – Oh, this is going to be too hard for around the net. I was very surprised to find out that the paddle has great feel. It is not hard, as I thought it would be, but very comfortable. It performs will on dinks and firefights, ground strokes and serves. Regarding serves, I can put excellent top spin on the ball as well as side spin.

Pro Line Energy

Here are the specs on this paddle:

  • Core: Narrow-cell Honeycomb Poly Core
  • Surface: Dynamic Kevlar Surface
  • Grip: Leather Performance Grip
  • Specs: 17” H x 7” W
  • Weight: 8.0 – 8.2oz
  • Swing Weight: 120
  • Grip Length: 6.25 in
  • Grip Circumference: 4.25 in
  • Thickness: 16.5 mm

The specs are the same as the Pro Line Energy S, except that it has a more traditional face (narrower) and a longer handle. It performs just was well as the Pro Line Energy S.

I didn’t know how thick the paddles were before I started using them, and I was surprised that they were 16.5 MM thick. I prefer narrower paddles, but these performed as thought they were 14 MM or so thick.

Summary:

I found that the Pro Line Energy had a softer feel, but that the Pro Line Energy S had a bit more pop. It is very difficult to be precise about this, but it is just a feeling.

Since I use a two-handed backhand, I preferred the Pro Line Energy.

In any event, these are paddles that you really should check out. They perform as well as some of the more expensive paddles on the market.
